Our Organization
Disabled Newlife Center, Nepal (DNC) was established in 1998 (BS 2054) with the aim of providing an opportunity for physically handicapped children to overcome their limitations and lead an independent life.

Our mission
To enable physically disabled children to integrate into society by providing medical treatment, rehabilitation, education and vocational training.

Disability is an age-old problem. Traditionally in Nepal, disability is considered a curse of God and there is widespread belief that disability is linked to "bad karma". Few believe that disabled people can be equally functional and can become productive members of society. As a result, children with disabilities have low self-esteem and keep themselves hiding all through their life.

Our center
Our house, which currently gives accomodation to 30 children, is located in the Chabahil district in Kathmandu. Recently the house has been enlarged with a physical rehabilitation room, which is to be used by children who were given corrective medical treatment.

Our work
DNC strives to fulfill its mission by providing:
1. Accommodation to physically handicapped children from vulnerable families which do not     have the means to cope with the specific demands of a disabled child.
2. Education to the children in our care. All necessary support for the children to get quality     education is provided by DNC.
3. Necessary corrective medical treatment to qualified children by quality institutions.
4. Vocational training to children graduating from secondary school.

For the necessary corrective treatment the process of medical check-up and surgery takes on average up to 2-3 months with hospitalization after surgery for up to 5-10 days.
The required artificial limbs and supports are provided by DNC.

Three girls and two boys have already exited the DNC center, having completed vocational training to become healthcare workers and a sewing instructors. They have found jobs and are leading a normal life. One more boy is expected to complete his High School Board exams this year.
